Acrobatics
Acro is a fusion of balancing, tumbling and limbering skills combined with dance technique. Safety of our dancers is a priority, and all skills are taught through drills designed to develop the strength and flexibility necessary for success. Teaching skills in a controlled and safe progression is key for confidence building and strong technique.
Acro 1 (First grade and up): Level 1 is a 45 minute class that is an introduction to acrobatic and tumbling skills. Students will learn the acrobatic fundamentals such as rolls, handstands, and backbends. Students will also work on balancing skills such as tripods and headstands, as well as tumbling skills such as cartwheels. Dancers in this class will also train weekly in flexibility and strengthening exercises.
Acro 2 (Teacher recommendation): This hour long class is a continuation of skills taught in level 1. Students will work on more difficult skills such as backbend/standup, backbend kickover, handstand balance into a forward roll, front limbers, chest stands, elbow stands, one handed cartwheels, partner cartwheels, and roundoffs. Students will also begin working on forward and backward progressions. Dancers in this level are expected to continue working on balance and control in their skills as well as strength and flexibility.
